Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)

What is an AED

An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is an electronic device that diagnoses life-threatening cardiac abnormalities like cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and pulse-less ventricular tachycardia. This portable device is also able to treat these conditions of preventing cardiac arrest in high-risk patients. With the application of electric pulse or shock to the heart AED Defibrillators can restore a normal heartbeat and can correct arrhythmia and allow the heart to re-establish normal rhythm.

AEDs are designed to render quick, onsite emergency assistance to patients suffering from sudden heart attacks. Automated external defibrillators (AEDs), which are in many public spaces, were developed to save the lives of people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

You often find AEDs in Mumbai places with large numbers of people, such as shopping malls, golf courses, gyms and swimming pools, airports, hotels, sports venues, and schools. You can also purchase a home-use AED. The AED is in a case about the size of a large first-aid kit. Many AEDs have a heart logo in red or green.
